LAWTELL THE ART CAT - African Dancer painting

African Dancer
24″x12″oil on canvas by Dona Simons

Your own Lawtell here, coming to you from under water. This beautiful dancer from Ghana makes me want to shake my feathers and shimmy like my sister Kate! You can see her in motion at the link below. I get a Cheshire cat grin just to see on her face how happy dancing makes her. You may notice that she’s submerged, shimmering in the cool blue sea. My human sometimes uses undersea settings in her paintings as a visual metaphor for New Orleans, which mostly sits below sea level.

If you roll over the image above, you can see me at my most tribal. I must admit my outfit is inspired as much by New Guinea as by Ghana. The lady in the painting danced with a drum group called Bougarabou, which is also the name of the type of drum I have here. They were from Ghana, but my human saw them perform right here in Louisiana. She was such an enchanting dancer that my human did three paintings of her, showing the way she moved. Then she put the three together in a little animation. You can see it at the following link. Dancer Animation

Hang this painting on your wall and let it make you dance around the room!
