LAWTELL THE ART CAT - The Studio of Henry Clews painting

As Michelangelo sort of said, I want to free the feline slumbering in the stone. Looking at Henry Clews’ sculptures in this painting, looks like he freed a lotta creatures. It is said that Henry modeled them after people he knew. I don’t imagine it endeared him to people in his social circle. They’re made of everything from wood to plaster to marble. And speaking of sculpture material, I’m mystified by English and especially its slang. As a cat, I have a far superior nuanced language and can’t figure out how the words plaster and stone came to mean intoxication, can you? Mind you, I’m not opposed to a little ’nip myself when it’s on offer. I just don’t get these euphemisms. I call a meow a meow when I see one.

My human spent many days doing this painting of Henry’s studio in his chateau in France. She says she felt a strong sense of his presence, which is why she included his shadow at the bottom of the painting. He is buried right next door. Ooooh, spooky!

The wood framing this painting (and the one of the villa too) came from Brazil and was cut and placed by none other than the grandson of Henry Clews himself! If you look below, you can see this painting in progress in Henry's studio.

Roll over the painting image above to see me and my sculptural masterpiece. I rock! Remember to send me to your friends.

You can hang this painting and make it your very own cabinet of curiosities!

Sincerely meow,
